Guaranteed Giggle

What a talented puppy!

Inspiration: Linda Zacks

I was introduced to Linda Zacks' work because she was going to be a guest crit for my GD2 class. Unfortunately she was unable to make it (so I couldn't grill her on her work and process) but fortunately I became OBSESSED with her work.

Her work speaks to me because it reminds me of what I like: bright colors, bold images and mixed media.

A couple of my favorites:

This is the one I want the most!

I really like the colors and the way they progress
through the alphabet and it reminds of one of my magazine covers!

I am seriously considering treating myself to one of her etsy pieces

I love her blog because it's a photo blog with humor.

Magazine Covers with My Found Alphabet

For my typography class, I created a found alphabet. My next step was to take the content of my alphabet and translate it into a magazine concept. I brainstormed and came up with the following three magazine titles: Smoked, Lit and Wacky Tabacky.

Here's how I translated my alphabet, content and concept into magazine covers:

This is the most literal and subtle of all three

This is probably my favorite because it's a beautiful mix
of colors and the text  reflects the imposed photo

I loved using cigarettes as a backdrop
to a cover title made of tobacco

Collage: The Other Side of the Door

I created a collage for my digital layout class that I absolutely love and wanted to share. I want to print it as a poster and hang it in my room!

Found Alphabet: Tobacco

For my typography class we had to create a font/alphabet from found or readymade objects. I chose to create my font from tobacco:

St. Patty's Day in NYC

This is the first year in 4 years I didn't got to Boston for St. Patrick's Day but I was SUPER excited to spend with Jamie and Eamon:

Review: Red Riding Hood

I treated myself to Red Riding Hood last night and it was exactly what I wanted and expected.

It was mysterious, sexy, intriguing and slightly suspenseful.

I enjoyed the mystical environment conveyed by the film's cinematography and color palette. It's a beautiful film. The suspense tied in well with the fairytale it's based on. It felt like a re-imagined version as it was supposed to.

I don't want to spoil anything but there was a nice twist and an unexpected but hoped for ending.

If you're looking for a sexy suspense then this is it.

Movies I'm Excited to See: Red Riding Hood, The Adjustment Bureau and Limitless

I'm on spring break from Parsons and I'm planning on catching up on my movie watching. I want to see Red Riding Hood or The Adjustment Bureau tonight. Not sure which will work out but I wanted to show off the movie trailers:

Apparently I'm really in the mood for thrillers!

Yay for Friends!

Jamie and I: A couple of years ago at the UW Med Frat - look at how young we look!
I have been really spoiled the last couple of months with my friends visiting. First up was my Seattle bestie, Caitlin. Then my mom was in town. Then Rebec was in town. Ms. Vivi Shukla is visiting this weekend (as of tonight!). On Monday, Ms. Jamie Wong will be in town!

I am so lucky and so spoiled. I have a wonderful family and wonderful friends.

It kicks a-s to live in a city that people love to visit.

Inspiration and Fashion: Shabby Apple

I've been super busy with school and haven't had much to explore the blogosphere and I'm really glad I made the time today because I found the wonderful clothing and accessory company, Shabby Apple via Love, Natalie.

The photography is beautiful and these are my favorite dresses:

It's definitely a site worth clicking through.

Inspiration: Corbis 24/7/365

I subscribe to HOW magazine + Print Partners and received a beautiful email with a link to an incredibly interesting study of 365 photographs for every day of the year.

For the month of March I really like Friday, March 25 because of the intensely saturated colors and Monday, March 21 because of the scale and impact of the sign's typography.

Check it out.

Photos!

I've been droning on and on about my personal happiness and misery, so I thought I'd make my blog a little more fun and post some badass pictures I've taken since my move.

Enjoy!

Misery Recognizes Misery

I've had a horrible couple of days for reasons that I won't share on a blog, too personal, but there is this amazing thing out in the world, especially New York, normal human kindness.

The setting:

I'm having a liquid lunch because I have to deal with my personal unpleasantness and I need to relax and resort my thoughts. I do it best at bar. This is strange to a lot of people but perfect for me because I am capable of shutting out outside influences while simultaneously benefiting from being around other people. A woman next to me asked if I was okay.
