My manager, Cris Shields took me home to Long Island (my first time ever!) and while it was freezing and we rushed out of work to make the train it was great to celebrate with new friends. Here's my Christmas Eve in photos:

I've Remembered Why I Hate Crying

It's mainly because once I start, I can't stop and all of the bad and maybe bad feelings I've had manifest. It's because it simultaneously breaks down a dam and my heart. I don't deal with many messy situations in my life anymore. I've tried to hold it together a bit better than that.

I'm happy that way or at least that's what I think most of the time. So when I start crying, and I'm not talking about a random tear drop or crying at the television or movies (which I do often), I can't stop. All of my hurt bleeds out through tears; illogical and logical. It's a painful experience I cannot contain. I've remembered this in the back of my brain and that's part of why I don't cry so much any more; even when it's warranted.

But when I cried like I did tonight when I really should be sleeping, I remember exactly why I hate crying so very much.

Castle is Bringing the Sexy Back

Awesome premiere episode of Castle.

Great and clever writing, good comic timing by Fillion and Katic and the two strong female leads got a sexy makeover. Beckett's hair looks amazing and they updated her wardrobe and the ME aka Lanie got her sexy back, too. It made the show more glossy and fun. I love it when women are pretty, in style so to speak and still kick major ass by being smart- streets and book.

I still really love Castle and his family; love how he reveals his feelings about Beckett via his daughter, love that he is still a dad-mom, love how his mother puts him in his place, love that Castle is raised by women (his mother and daughter), and love that it separates Castle from being like a lot of other male television counterparts. Castle is boyish, handsome, a little immature and childish BUT he is mature when it comes to his family. He seems like a ladies' man and he is but he's a good ladies' man. Not quite the player or sleeze as he could be by other television show cannons.

Can't wait to come back for more next week.

Movies Wanted, Movies Watched

As I blogged about here and here, I had been dying to see Easy A and The Switch and since my move I have! When one is unemployed, movie going is a favorite option of mine.

I saw Easy A the day it opened, this last Friday and it was solid. Emma Stone is likable, believable, relatable and really adorable as the lead high school heroine. I'm not a huge Penn Bagley fan but I did like him in this role. Amanda Bynes nails the Jesus freak foil to Emma's Olive. I was pleasantly surprised because it had some unexpected elements and twists. It started out a little differently than I thought but it told the story it promised in its trailer. I would highly recommend it. It's particularly great for high schoolers.  

The Switch was much like I expected from the trailers. J.Anniston didn't annoy as much as usual, the chemistry between J.Bateman and the little boy was absolutely precious - my favorite part, J.Goldblum was hilarious and a great foil for J.Bateman and J.Lewis was hysterical and added some much needed laugh out loud humor. A predictable satisfying romcom.

I've also seen and recommend: The Town, The Romantics and Get Low.

Happy Month Anniversary to Me!

Yesterday was my one month anniversary of moving to New York and to celebrate I'm going to recap my month.

I started off in the East Village for the first week and a half. I learned that where I lived, Avenue D and 9th is also referred to as Avenue Death and it's as far east as possible to be in Manhattan. It was a decent place but there was some strange art and NO air circulation. I'm glad it wasn't permanent. 

Then I began the tedious search of a permanent living situation. Looking for a roommate and room on Craig's List was a bizarre mix of a job interview and a blind date. 

You want to show that you're reliable and trustworthy yet have him or her like you enough to see you again (aka let you live with them for a year).

I finally found a great place to live with a great roommate(s). I live on the Upper East Side aka UES with Jillian and Luna the cat. It's a quiet area and it feels like a neighborhood but it does lack having a variety of shops nearby. It doesn't lack have a variety of great bars nearby ;).

On the job front: I thought I had a sure bet at Coach. I informally interviewed and was told they would find a place for me. Weeks went by and I didn't hear anything. Out of the blue I got a phone call to fill out paperwork and once I passed my background check they would officially offer me a position. It's been almost a week and a half and no job offer . . .

Awesome Design Community Site: Adventures in Making

I have some seriously amazing and talented friends and my dear friend, Alison Lang, created Adventures in Making. AIM is a creative community born out of Alison's nature to be a "Design Mommy." She has always been an amazing resource by offering up much needed direction and advice. I haven't joined in on the fun yet but I plan to.
